The gate to the Dune and Flowerbulb Region

Hillegom is the most northern town of the Bulb Region. If you want to learn more about this beautiful flower region, you should start your discovery here. With the beach and many other nature- and recreation areas at cycling distance, it has a quiet, rural atmosphere.

The town has an open-air swimming pool, a paintball centre, the first drift trike track in the Netherlands, picking gardens and an excellent shopping centre. It is a village with a rich history. The village pump and the adjacent Hof tell the story of the ancestors of the current lord of Hillegom, Jan Six.

Discover the beauty of Dahlias

From mid-August, the Bulb Region is dominated by Dahlias. There are many activities during this period. From touring along show gardens to the annual Dahlia Mosaic Competition.

In recent years, this versatile summer flower has grown enormously in popularity. The Dahlia is a colourful sparkling flower that blooms very richly and long, from mid-summer to October Unlike spring bloomers, dahlias are not bulbs but tubers.

Today, there are more than 62,000 different cultivated varieties in all colours, shapes and sizes.  These bright explosions of colour are real eye-catchers. The region's show gardens offer a unique opportunity to admire the diversity and beauty of dahlias up close.

It's time for Dahlias!
