Dahlia Mosaic Competition

Every year at the end of August/beginning of September, the Dune and Flowerbulb Region is dedicated to dahlia mosaics, now an annual event in the region.

Every year, at the end of summer, enthusiastic volunteers and entrepreneurs from the Bulb Region set to work with the colourful dahlias. As a group, they create beautiful works of art that are definitely worth coming to admire.

The participating villages are Voorhout, Lisse, Hillegom, De Zilk and Noordwijkerhout.

Touring along the summer flowers

From tubers to flowers

The dahlias are blooming again! From pastel-coloured to brightly coloured and in thousands of shapes and sizes, but all equally beautiful and unique.

The dahlia originated in Mexico and is related to the sunflower, the daisy, the chrysanthemum and the zinnia. The dahlia is a tuberous plant and grows in almost any type of soil, but can also be kept in a pot.  With a flowering period from mid-August until far into the autumn, the dahlia provides an explosion of colour in the fields and show gardens of the Bulb Region.

The exuberantly flowering dahlia not only has a great attraction to people but is also very popular with bees, bumblebees and butterflies!
