One of the oldest buildings in the village is the "Klokgeveltje". This building is already mentioned in 1634. At that time, the beer merchand Mattheus Bake lived in the Klokgeveltje.

In 1722, his great-grandchildren sold the Klokgeveltje to a baker. After this, from 1806 to 1947, the building is a butcher's shop.

After 1947, various shops were established in the building. From 1975 until today the Klokgeveltje is a house again.

To the right of the Klokgeveltje is a green shutter at street level. The cellar under the upstairs room of the present Kruidvat belongs to the Klokgeveltje. In 1643, the then owner of the right-hand property asked Mattheus Bake whether he could build an upstairs room on the existing cellar. This was granted and explains this strange construction that still applies today.

The building to the left of the Clock Gable is the Schoutenhuis. This house was built in 1810 by Jan Huijser, the last sheriff and later the first mayor of Hillegom. Already in 1824 he sold the big house to the village doctor. After that the house has been the accommodation of the local doctor until 1974. Now an estate agent and small service companies are established in this national monument.

Both buildings are national monuments and are part of the protected village sight Kerkplein. This means that these beautiful buildings are insured against alteration and deterioration.
