The world-famous painter Jan Steen is said to have lived and worked in this house from 1656-1660.

It is certain that Jan Steen lived in Warmond from 1658 to 1660, but it is less certain whether he lived in this house. He made in Warmond a painting called "De Hoenderhof".

Diagonally opposite the Jan Steen house there is a bust of Jan Steen. It was made in 2008 by the Leiden sculptor Jeroen Spijker. By the way: just as Rembrandt appears as a figure in many of his paintings, Jan Steen often depicted himself in his works. Even back then, people were already taking selfies!

Jan Steen house is privately owned and not open to visitors.
