Polder Poelgeest
This bird area lies between the railway, water and residential area. "You walk and cycle here as it were through the landscape as Rembrandt saw it...".
Polders Poelgeest is situated against the new housing estates of Leiden and Oegstgeest. Here you can walk and cycle through the landscape as Rembrandt saw it (and painted it). The Klaas-Hennepoelpolder and the Veerpolder are now a magnet for special birds. The unpaved paths lead right past pools full of black-tailed godwits and geese. The lapwings stalk around you to distract attention from their nests.
On the Warmonderleede on the north-west side, the Zuid-Hollands Landschap has created a beautiful mooring for canoes and sloops. The existing walking and cycling routes are continuously expanded, making it possible to walk and cycle from the various residential areas in Oegstgeest to both Polders Poelgeest and the Kager Zoom, Koudenhoorn and Warmond.

Route
The polder can be approached from Warmond via the Veerpolder. If you go via Padoxlaan, over the bridge over the Leede River, you immediately make a 180 degree turn and go under the viaduct, you are there. The area is closed off with a gate and is not accessible by car.
