The Zemelpolder, also called (presumably incorrectly) Hemelpolder, was founded in 1662. The origin of the wind drainage is not well known.

This also applies to the predecessor of the current mill (which was completely destroyed by arson on 4 November 1999): it probably dates from the 18th century. The archives of the Zemelpolder are very incomplete and therefore give little information about the past of the polder and the mill.

Of the burned mill, only the field walls remained after the fire. The former mill had been out of operation since 1929, but was well-maintained by the municipality of Lisse and regularly operated on a voluntary basis. It also served as a shelter for the electric pumping station. Unfortunately, since the 1960s, the area around the windmill had changed dramatically, leaving little in the way of buildings and vegetation in the polder.

After the fire, recovery plans were quickly drawn up, with the result that millwright Verbij was able to deliver a mill suitable for grinding again in the course of 2003.
After the mill had already been in operation on National Mill Day 2003, it was officially put into use on Friday 6 June 2003.
It is striking that the mill has become slightly bigger again during the reconstruction. With the (second-hand) Potrodes, the flight was still 17.90 m. With the successors, it became 18.60 m. and the new mill measures 19.30 m.

The predecessor's upper axle, which was rejected in the fire, is kept separately next to the mill.

Eight-sided mill, Polder mill, Year of construction: 2003, capable of grinding.
Purpose: drainage of the former Zemelpolder on a voluntary basis
